Ganja seized at airport : Two sisters held, remanded

Two siblings have been arrested by Singjamei police along with 1.6 kg of ganja yesterday.
While the younger sister was arrested from Imphal International Airport, the elder surrendered before the police last night.
Residents of Khurai, the women were produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal West today and the Court remanded them to five day police custody.
Reportedly, the younger sister was arrested while trying to carry 1.6 kg of ganja in an Imphal-Delhi Indigo flight last afternoon and the name of her elder sister cropped up during interrogation.
Through APP, the IO of the case stated that the ganja was detected during baggage screening by the Airport staff at around 2.40 pm today.
She was to head for Delhi in an Indigo flight.
It is further reported that the 1.6 kg of ganja was packed in two packages containing 800 gram of cannabis each.
The passenger was detained by Airport security and later handed over to Singjamei police station for investigation.
The ganja was also seized by observing formalities.
During interrogation, the woman disclosed that the ganja was given to her by her sister.
Accordingly, the elder sister was summoned by the police, following which she surrendered.
The IO of the case also stated that the investigation of the case is in its initial stage and as such remanding them to police custody is necessary to ascertain if there are other people involved.
The Court on perusal of the case record and after hearing the submission of the APP remanded the siblings to police custody till February 14 .
