BRTF man injured in IED blast near BP 81

Imphal, February 10 2023:
A man working with the BRTF and engaged in the Indo-Myanmar border fencing work near Border Pillar No 81 sustained injuries when an IED exploded on Friday morning at the work site.
According to police, the IED exploded at about 9.45 am Friday near BP No 81 close to Kwatha Khunou village and a BRTF (82 RCC) man named Terom Berla (35) son of Nuwash Berla of Simdega district, Jharkhand suffered splinter injuries on both his legs and right hand.
The police source further said that the IED could have been planted by unidentified armed miscreants and Moreh police has registered a case.
Terom Berla was given initial treatment at Moreh sub divisional hospital and later shifted to Imphal by BRTF for further treatment.
In the wake of the blast, troops of 5 Assam Rifles have intensified security in the area.
Mention may be made that state government and some civil organisations had given the call for halting the border fencing construction at BP number 80 and BP 81 due to boundary disputes in these areas.
The bomb attack was carried out even as chief minister Biren Singh was called on by Manav Prasad, Chief Engineer, Project Sewak, and Atul Kumar, Commander BRTF at the CM's Secretariat.
The meeting had a productive discussion on the ongoing construction of roadways and the fencing work at the In do-Myanmar border.
The Manipur government has been taking up securi ty measures at the border to prevent the entry of illegal immigrants and the smuggling of drugs into the state, CM said in a tweet after the meeting.
At least two high-intensity bomb blasts have also been reported near Moreh town along the India-Myanmar border on Thursday.
The blasts took place inside the territory of Myanmar, about 150 metres away from the international border in Manipur sector.
