Over 5 kgs of brown sugar seized, lady held

Over 5 Kgs of brown sugar were seized by Churachandpur Police today during an operation that put at least two teams of the district police on their toes.
The huge haul was made after the police received an actionable input at about 9.30 am, said a source.
The police received information that a huge quantity of contraband drugs was being transported along Sugnu-Churachandpur road in a vehicle early today.
Accordingly, teams of Churachandpur police station led by OC SI Zairemthang and a team of women police station, Churachandpur mounted a surveillance along Churachandpur-Sugnu road for hours.
The team eventually spotted one car (KIA Seltos) moving in a very suspicious manner.

They signalled the vehicle to stop but the vehicle ignoring the police gesture instead sped away.
The police team immediately chased the vehicle and tracked it down at Bijang Vengpi, Churachandpur.
Upon checking the vehicle, four black bags containing suspected brown sugar were found by the police team.
Immediately the police requisitioned representatives from the District Magistrate and opened the four bags in the presence of an Executive Magistrate and civil witnesses.
It was discovered that the bags contained 440 soap cases of suspected brown sugar that weighed about 5.115 Kgs.
The driver of the vehicle who identified herself as Vahhoihlhing Baite (41) wife of Paokholal Baite of T Lailoiphai village, Sangaikot was arrested along with her car at about 11.40 am.
Two mobile phones were also seized from her possession, said police.
A case has been registered at Churachandpur police station for further investigation and to get to the bottom of the matter.
