Overall vehicle sales drop, three-wheelers rise

Imphal, February 10 2023:
Unlike December, 2022, which saw a significant jump, the state recorded slight drop in the overall sales of vehicles in January 2023 with three-wheeler vehicles seeing highest increase in sales on Year on Year (YoY) basis as compared with sales figure of corresponding month of last year.
According to data released by Federation of Automobile Dealers' Associations (FADA), the overall sales figure for all types of vehicles dropped by -2.91 per cent (YoY) with January 2023 recording sales of 4,404 vehicles as compared to 4,536 vehicles in January 2022 .
The state is showing significant increase in sales despite the fact that the country is witnessing 24.93 per cent growth from January 2022 to January 2023.However, increase in retail sales varies among the different categories.
In two-wheeler category, the state recorded sales of 3,158 vehicles in January 2023 against 3,660 in January 2022, thereby showing a YoY decline of 13.72 per cent.
Total sales of 157 three-wheeler vehicles were recorded in January 2023 against 27 sold in January 2022, which shows a YoY increase of 481.48 per cent.
January 2023 recorded sales of 196 commercial vehicles against 162 units sold in January 2022, with YoY increase of 20.99 per cent.
In passenger vehicle category, which includes cars, January 2023 reported sales of 893 units against 687 in January 2022, thereby showing a YoY increase of 29.99 per cent.
On the other hand, there was no sale of tractor in January 2023 similar to January 2022 .
The All India YoY changes from January 2022 to January 2023 are 10.07 per cent in two-wheeler, 58.59 per cent in three-wheeler, 16.34 per cent in commercial vehicles, 21.92 per cent in passenger vehicles, and 7.96 per cent in tractors.
The overall change is 13.56 per cent.
Commenting on how December 2022 performed, especially in the state, FADA Manipur State chairperson Andy Mangsatabam said, 'The automobile market sentiment is positive in the state.
There is growth in every category except two-wheelers.
The pending two-wheeler registration cases with the various DTOs could be the likely reason for the decline in this category'.
