Panchayat elections on September 13

Imphal, July 27 2012:
The General Elections to Zilla Parishads and Gram Panchayats in the four valley districts of the state would be conducted on September 13 .
Accordingly, the election code of conduct has been enforced with immediate effect.
Issuing a notification in this regard, Secretary of State Election Commission Th Chitra said that the General Elections to the Zilla Parishads of Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal and Bishnupur and all Gram Panchayats would be held on September 13.The last date for filing of nomination is September 3 with September 4 as The last date for filing of nomination is September 3 with September 4 asthe date of scrutiny and September 7 as the date for withdrawal of candidatures.
In case of repoll, it would be conducted on September 15 and counting of votes would be carried out on September 17 so as to complete the entire election procedure by September 22 .
According to the notification, the casting of votes would be facilitated from 7 am to 4 pm.
Speaking to media persons in connection with the declaration of the election notification, Th Chitra said that along with declaration of the election notification, all the district ROs have issued public notifications and the election code of conduct has been enforced with immediate effect.
Accordingly, all MLAs and Ministers are prohibited from touring in Panchayat Election area.
Laying of foundation stones, inauguration of buildings or taking up developmental works under the MLA Local Area Development Funds have also been prohibited till completion of the election process.
She further informed that altogether 6,51,817 (3,18,122 males and 3,33,695 females) voter would be exercising their franchise in the elections for which 1516 polling stations would be opened and there will be five District Election Officers in all the four districts including Jiribam Sub-Division.
Twelve SDOs of the valley districts would be the ROs of the election while 41 SDCs and BDOs would be the Assistant ROs.
There would be 6 Polling Personnel in each Polling station.
Th Chitra said that there would be 60 seats for Zilla Parishads.
Among these, 19 seats are in Imphal East, 14 seats in Imphal West, 16 seats in Thoubal and 11 seats in Bishnupur.
For Pradhans of Gram Panchayats, there would be 161 seats which include 55 seats in Imphal East, 39 in Imphal West, 42 in Thoubal and 24 in Bishnupur.
For Gram Panchayat members, there would be 1514 seats in all.
In Imphal East, there would be 490 seats, 327 in Imphal West, 478 in Thoubal and 219 in Bishnupur.
