Farmers' interactive programme held

Under the joint auspices of Agricultural Labourers' Union Manipur (ALUM) and Indigenous Kuki People's Forum (IKPF), a day-long Farmers' interactive programme was held at B Vengnom Community hall in Churachandpur today.
The event was facilitated with the motive of establishing industries based on agriculture, to develop a marketing policy and to promote relation between the farmers and the government.
Speaking on the occasion, H Rajendra, Assistant Director of Sericulture Department, said that a society cannot live entirely dependent on a single profession.
Where there is space for developing Horticulture, it should be developed and practiced and where Sericulture plays an important role, it should be developed under all circumstances.

He pointed out that the state government is seen giving more emphasis on development of roads and bridges but fails to give priorities in agriculture, horticulture and sericulture sector, which fills the stomach of the people.
Earlier silk rearing is done mostly in Khurkhul, Phayeng, Leimaram and Thongjao.
But today, the profession can be taken up in almost all parts of the state and earn profit.
The demand for silk products is increasing but the state is not able to produce to meet the demands, he lamented.
N Tomba, Advisor of ALUM, informed that the organisation has selected 20 students from 20 poor families of Churachandpur for providing education from class I to X in different private schools recognized by the state government.
The function was graced by Langkhanpao, Chairman of ADC Churachandpur, YR Chothe, President of ALUM and IKPF and Demmang Haokip, Vice Chairman of ADC Churachandpur as Chief Guest, President and Guest of Honour respectively.
