Chandel, September 16 2015:
The 12-hour total Chandel district bandh imposed by the Committee on Protection of Tribal Rights (CoPoTR) and Anal civil society organisations against the use of Anal traditional shawl as a table cloth during the election of Chandel ADC chairman at Imphal was called off around 4 pm today after an understanding was reached between the involved parties.
The bandh began from 6 am today.
As authority from Chandel ADC agreed to hold talks with the agitating body on Sept 17, the bandh was called off midway.
No untoward incident was reported during the bandh hours.
A large number of bandh supporters came out in the morning and blocked the Chandel-Pallel road.
Govt offices including Mini Secretariat, shops and other business establishment remained shut for the day.
Passenger vehicles stayed off the road.
Normal life was also affected in Chakpikarong areas.
Speaking to reporters, Victor Kohring, chairman of the JAC spearheading the agitation said the bandh was called off midway following assurance from the ADC authority to have talks in the Court of Anals on Sept 17 .
