12-hour Chandel bandh called off midway

Chandel, September 16 2015:
Following assurance from ADC authority for holding talks with the agitating JAC, the 12-hour total bandh in the district imposed jointly by Committee on Protection of Tribal Rights (CoPoTR) Chandel and Anal civil societies was called off at 4 pm Wednesday.
Even though the bandh enforced from 6 am protesting against the use of Anal customary shawl as a table cloth during ADC chairman election on September 14 at Imphal, as well as the absence of Chandel DC in the district during a mass rally held same day, was called off midway by the JAC.
CoPoTR reiterated that the boycott against election of Lhukhosei Zou as chairman of ADC Chandel will continue.
Large number of bandh supporters came out in the morning and blocked the Chandel Pallel road by piling up of logs.
Government offices in the district Mini Secretariat, shops and schools remained shut.
All passenger buses, Sumo and DI vans stayed off the road.
The bandh also affected normal life in Chakpikarong bazar and its surrounding areas as the strike was enforced there under the initiative of Chakpikarong Bazar Board, ALT Chakpi Branch and Anal Naga Chiefs Association Chakpikarong.
Toupokpi village, Chakpikarong-Imphal, Sugnu and Chandel section of the road also witnessed disruption.
Talking to newsmen, chairman Victor Kohring informed that the concerned ADC authorities have assured the committee for talks in the joint court of the Anals on September 17 and said that further course of action will be decided after the talks.
