Imphal, September 16 2015:
Representatives of Thangmeiband United Clubs Organisation held meeting with different community leaders of Thangal Keithel today to clear doubts on rumours about harassment of non-Manipuris in the backdrop of the ILPS agitation.
Speaking to media persons by the sideline of the meeting, representative of Aggarwal Samaj, Achou Bhaiji said people of the State cutting across communal divides faced hardships during the nearly two-month long sustained pro-ILPS agitation.
Some non-Manipuris returned to their native places due to fear.
But none of the non-Manipuris residing in Thangal Keithel area fled and no major unwarranted incident took place in the area, he said while appealing to all concerned to maintain peaceful coexistence.
Achou Bhaiji appealed the Thangmeiband body to revoke if any noncooperation agitation is launched against non-Manipuris by them in the local level and to ensure the return of the non-Manipuris in the locality.
TUCO president Sinam Gojen said that the noncooperation movement was announced against non-Manipuris during the peak of the ILPS agitation.
But the same has been revoked since Sept 1 .
He also said that a local regulation for non-Manipuris has been decided to be enforced in the locality keeping aside the implementation or non-implementation of the three Bills passed by the Assembly.
He elaborated that the regulation will include restriction on occupation of single room by around 10 persons and to collect details of the tenants.
Other than these local level regulations, there is no instance of any organisation of the locality asking non-Manipuris to leave the place, he clarified.
