Trucks stranded as Motbung Bridge develops cracks

Imphal, April 19 2022:
Trucks carrying goods more than 24 tonnes are left stranded at Taphou area after a bridge in Motbung area, located at a distance of about 1 km from Motbung Bazar, developed cracks.
Sources said that around 100 goods laden trucks have been left stranded in Taphou area after the state government issued an order restricting loaded trucks weighing more than 24 tonnes from crossing the bridge.
Expressing concern over the situation, All Manipur Road Transport Drivers and Motor Workers' Union has drawn attention of the government for repairing the bridge at the earliest while stating that the stranded trucks are carrying essential commodities including medicines.
In a statement, the union also stated that leaving them stranded for long will cause severe hardships to the drivers and handymen.
