Awareness on organic farming held

An awareness cum training programme on Promotion of Organic Farming in Manipur was organised by ICAR-KVK Lamphelpat at its conference hall on Tuesday as part of the weeklong campaign "Annadata Devo Bhava" .
According to a release, KVK Imphal senior scientist and head Dr Th Motilal Singh in his key note address highlighted the importance of organic farming in the context of India and the state.
During the inaugural session, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Manipur Centre Dr I Meghachandra Singh deliberated on the importance of organic farming on two concepts namely - organic farming for individual household consumptions and commercial aspects of organic farming with certification process.
He also highlighted the importance of 'Desi Cow' and its role in promoting organic farming and the potential of Black Rice crop.
MOMA, Department of Horticulture and soil conservation, project officer Dr L Jeebit and ICAR Manipur Centre Soil Science scientist Dr T Bas anta 8ingh spoke on the topics "Organic farming and its certification procedure" and "Soil management in organic farming", respectively.
A total of 80 participants from different villages of Imphal West district took part in the awareness cum training programme.
An interaction session was also organised between the attending scientists and resource persons and the farmers, the release informed.
