6th MNCA Elite Tournament : W Samson's all round performance guides Blue Hawk to 94 run opening match victory

Wakambam Samson shone with both the bat and ball to hand Blue Hawk, Khurai opening match (Group B) victory in the 6th MNCA W Prahlada and W Ramananda Elite Tournament against Al-Ameen, Lilong here at Luwangpokpa Cricket Stadium today.
Opting to bat first, Blue Hawk gathered 195 run for 6 in allotted 40 overs thanks to half centuries from Wakham Samson and Arnorn Guniram and successfully restricted the Lilong side to 101 all out within 24.5 overs as Samson returned snared three wickets to trigger the collapse.
Blue Hawk were 17 when they lost Becker Roy cheaply on 7 to fast bowler Md Basir Rahman who also removed Sanatomba for 29 to reduce Manipur to 66-2 .
Skipper Wakambam Samson however held on and gave a significant partnership 105 run partnership with Amom Guniram playing second fiddle before Guniram was bowled out by Najarul Islam for 52 (off 49 balls) in the fourth delivery of the 36th over.
When Samson departed for 83 to Najarul Islam, Blue Hawk were 180 for 5 before Nongthombam Ajit added 14 runs to help the team post a target of 196 runs.
Najarul returned with the best bowling figures of 3/43 in 8 overs before they bundled out for a meagre 101 total in the chase.
Md Basir Rahman and Md Safwan Khan gave Al-Ameen a good start but the innings took a sharp turn after Md Safwan departed for 31 and Basir was trapped lbw by star of the day, Samson for the second wicket.
Samson (3/18 in 6 overs), Mutum Pritam (3/8 in 4 overs) and Gautam Soubam (3/1 in 5 balls) then wreaked havoc and limit the chase to 101 runs.
Samson who hit a half century and picked up three wickets was eventually named man of the match.
