Residential Wheelchair Basketball Coaching Camp begins

A residential Wheelchair Basketball Coaching Camp organised by the Wheelchair Basketball Association Manipur (WBAM) with the assistance of Social Welfare Department kicked off today at Brahmapur Nahabam Basketball Court.
The opening ceremony of the coaching camp organised ahead of the 1st North East Zonal Wheelchair Basketball Tournament to be held from April 23 and 24, was attended by Director Social Welfare Department, Ng Uttam as chief guest; vice president of WBAM and social activist, Dr Kiran Yendrembam as functional president; Joint Director of Social Welfare Department Bantee Konthoujam and retd Deputy Director, YAS, H Radhacharan as guests of honour.
During the function, Ng Uttam, Kiran Yendrembam, Bantee Konthoujam and L Dhaneshwor (Deputy Director of Social Welfare Department) were also presented momentoes for helping prosecute the preparatory camp ahead of the zonal event to be hosted in Imphal.
Further, H Radhacharan Sharma who is also the advisor of Dharmalaya Social Welfare Centre, Brahmapur Nahabam was also honoured with a momento as an acknowledgement for the support and allowing usage of the Basketball Court.
Speaking at the occasion, the Director of Social Welfare Department lauded the effort of WBAM in making necessary arrangement for the camp without waiting for the Government's assistance and assured that possible assistance from the Government will soon be provided.
While noting the significance of organising such an event should, H Radhacharan also encouraged the organisation and expressed happiness for the effort to help person with disabilities lead a normal life.
Social activist Kiran Yendrembam in the meantime said that time of stigmatizing person with disabilities have long gone and called upon all to stop hiding and isolating disabled family members.
These persons can also make the State proud through sports and other skills and talents, he said and added that these persons can also be equally responsible as a normal person do.
Further, coach Varun from Delhi who will be supervising the coaching camp was also honoured with a momento at the occasion.
The attendees also paid floral tribute to the photo of former National Wheelchair Basketball player, Khwairakpam Ibomcha from Sekmai who passed away recently.
