Kakching, April 19 2022:
A team of All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) inspected the condition of Chairen High School in Kakching district as apart of 'Campaign for total education' .
The inspection visit was part of AMSU's campaign for total education which was launched in 2017 .
Speaking to media after the inspection, AMSU general secretary Bikramjit Thongam said Chairen High School which is under the jurisdiction of ZEO Kakching was upgraded from a junior high school into a high school in 2014 .
The school used to have 7 teachers including the principal but 5 teachers under Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) had been called to be engaged in other schools, he added.
With the cancellation of physical classes for the last 2 years following the COVID-19 pandemic, the school has been left in a dilapidated condition with classroom covered in dust and school corridors infested by cattles, Bikramjit told the media.
The re-starting of physical classes has brought out an ugly picture of the school which neither has any teacher nor has any student, he added.
Bikramjit questioned whether the education system in the State is running backward and not forward as needed.
AMSU sought clarification why 5 teachers out of just 7 in the school have been utilized elswhere while the poor people of the area are unable to get proper education for their children as they could not afford education in private educational institutions and the Government run educational institutes are in no condition to impart proper education facilities.
Bikramjit appeal the Government to send the require teachers in this school else AMSU will start strong protest along with support from the locals.
The inspection visit was also joined by Mani Ningthoujam, secretary, Human Resource Development AMSU and joint secretary Prikeshwor Moirangthem.
