National handloom expo begins in Pune

Imphal, April 19 2022:
A 14-day National Handloom Expo organised by Department of Handloom and Textiles, Manipur, has begun from Monday at Raga Lawns, Koregaon Park in Pune, Maharashtra.
The opening ceremony of the Handloom Expo being organised with financial assistance from the office of development commissioner (handloom) of the Ministry of Textiles was attended by Koregaon Park, Pune corporator Umesh Gaikwad as chief guest, national handloom awardee Konjengbam Medha as president and Association of Manipuri Diaspora, Pune ex-president H Narendra Singh as special guest.
Manipur Handloom & Handicraft Development Corporation Limited general manager (administration) Th Basanta and Maharashtra's textile designer Jayant B Mangalpalli also attended the event as guests of honour.
In his speech, Umesh Gaikwad lauded the unique designs of Manipuri handloom and thanked the organisers for holding the handloom fair in Pune city.
He also said that it was for the first time that a state known for handloom and handicraft is holding such a fair in Pune.
Altogether, 80 participants from different parts of Manipur are taking part in the handloom expo.
