NWU fetes lone Naga woman MLA

Naga Women's Union (NWU) Manipur felicitated SS Olish, who is the lone Naga woman MLA elected from Chandel assembly constituency in the recently held 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election.
NWUM president Asha Wungnam expressed pride and happiness to have witnessed another Naga woman such as Olish rise to power and become the second elected MLA from among Naga women in the Manipur Legislative Assembly.
She recalled Hangmila Shaiza was the first Naga woman MLA who got elected in 1990 and said it has taken another 32 long years for Naga women to reach such heights.
The felicitation pro gramme of SS Olish was held on Tuesday at DSSS, Mantripukhri, Imphal.
Asha Wungnam said every Naga woman is happy that a Naga woman is now in the highest decision making platform in the state.
She also mentioned that NWU is an apex organisation of Naga women in Manipur which "is mobilising and giving awareness to achieve our goal, that is, enabling Naga women to be conscious and assertive with regard to our rights for equal participation at all levels".
Speaking on the occasion, SS Olish thanked NWU for organising such event and encouraged the society to see that more and more women participate in decision making.
Olish also said that she will try her best to promote women in the state irrespective of hills and the valley.
Before she joined electoral politics, Olish was involved in student union activities and eventually became a woman leader.
Federating units of Naga Women Union participated in the programme in their respective traditional attires.
Gifts were also exchanged in the event.
A blessing programme was also held for Olish as she embarks her journey to serve the people.
