Uripok-Kangchup-Tamenglong road Public hearing concludes

Public hearing in connection with the widening of Uripok-Kangchup-Tamenglong road (Uripok-Kangchup road) has concluded today at Shamu-shang community hall.
The programme was attended by Herojit Nga- ngomba, Corporator IMC Ward No 27, BB Sharma, former Joint Director, AIR Imphal, Md Abdul Salam, former Deputy Settlement Officer, Revenue Department, Prof Y Mohendra Singh, economist, T Braja-kumar Singh, Deputy Direc- tor, Directorate of Environment, N Khaba, president, Lakhsh Pioneer Committee, Naoremthong, A Ibotombi, president, The Brilliance Club and Th Alexander Singh, executive member, Lakhsh Pioneer Committee, Naoremthong.
Dr T Brajakumar said, "Widening work of Uripok-Kangchup-Tamenglong Road will be undertaken with funding from Asian Development Bank.
The public hearing sessions have been conducted since social impact assessment is a must to ensure affected landowners are compensated fairly under the Right to fair compensation and transparency in land acquisition, rehabilitation and resettlement Act 2013 .
The opinions and suggestions of the landowners will be submitted to the Department concerned, Brajakumar said.
Today's public hearing was attended by a large number of residents of Lalambung and Iroisemba.
The landowners suggested that the work should be executed and completed within a stipulated period of time.
It may be noted that Uripok-Kangchup-Tamenglong stretch is 111 kms long and 63 acres of land from both sides of Naoremthong-Kangchup Road will be acquired for the project.
It has been reported that altogether 3.5587 acres of land in Lalambung and 4.1745 acres of land in Iroisemba will be affected.
