Kangpokpi, April 15 2017:
Angam Leivon (57), a resident of Kangpokpi who is a Deputy Ranger in Forest Department was abducted by some unknown miscreants on the evening of April 13 from his house of Kangpokpi Ward no 8 for a ransom of Rs 30 lakh.
His mother in-law expired the next day after he was abducted and the family has been waiting for his safe return as he is the sole responsible person to perform the last rite of the deceased mother-in-law.
Another resident of Kangpokpi Ward no 2 identified as Lalal Sitlhou was abducted by some unidentified miscreants yesterday at around 10.30 pm from his residence.
Considering the frequent abduction and demand for ransom in the district, hundreds of womenfolk organized a protest rally today at Kangpokpi DHQs and appealed the abductor(s) for safe release of the two victims at the earliest.
The rally which began from Brig.
Thomas ground marched towards SP office along the Asian Highway and proceeded to the office of DC through ADC Sadar Hills Administrative Office where some representatives of the womenfolk met the DC and submitted a representation.
Deputy Commissioner, Kangpokpi T Ranjit Singh assured them of every possible help from the district administration toward ensuring peaceful environment in the district.
All business establishments within Kangpokpi DHQs remained closed for the day to mark the detestation and disapproval of abduction and other anti-social activities.
The womenfolk urged the abductor(s) to release Angam Leivon and Lalal Sitlhou at the earliest on humanitarian ground.
