Liquor worth over Rs 23 lakh disposed

A large quantity of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) and DIC liquor seized from different places worth Rs 23.26 lakh was disposed today at the office complex of Excise Headquarters, Lam-phelpat.
Briefing media persons before disposing the liquors, Excise Superintendent Th Brucelee Khuman said that the liquors were seized by different security agencies and Excise stations.
The liquors disposed today included 3011.44 litres of IMFL, 256.10 litres of beer and 4427.50 litres of DIC liquor.
Their respective monetary values were estimated to be Rs 18,06,864, Rs 76,830 and Rs 4,42,750 .
Large quantities of seized liquors were disposed of similarly in February in the run up to the last State Assembly election and again in May, Brucelee said.

The liquor bottles were put in a pit, smashed and set ablaze.
Brucelee Khuman said that the State Excise Department has been facing acute shortage of manpower.
He said that there are only 120 personnel at present against the sanctioned post of over 700 .
If the manpower is increased to some extent, the Excise Department can contribute substantial amount of revenue to the State exchequer, he added.
