Imphal, August 03 2015:
The Kuki Inpi Manipur and the KSO Ghqs have urged the State Government to airlift food supplies to landslide affected villages of Chandel district which have been cut off from other parts of the State.
A joint memorandum submitted to Chief Minister O Ibobi said that the disaster has created acute shortage of food supply in villages that generally depended on food procured from outside at this time of year.
Since surface transportation of goods is not feasible at the moment, the situation demands airlifting of food supply to face the threat of starvation and death in the affected villages.
KIM and KSO further identified four places namely Sehlon, Moltuh, Joupi and Sita as drop zones for airlifting food supplies to the affected villages.
There is also an urgent need to repair and restore the portions of roads damaged by landslides so that relief materials can be sent to the affected villages effectively.
They further urged the Chief Minister to instruct BRTF to repair the roads on war footing so that normal life is restored in Chandel district at the earliest.
