Imphal, April 15 2023:
The All Manipur Christian Organi-sation (AMCO) has stated that all Churches and Chris-tians of the State have collectively resolved to fight against drug menace and poppy cultivation.
In a statement, AMCO thanked the Centre and the State Government for their 'relentless efforts' to eradicate drug menace.
Stating that the War on Drugs and Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan are indeed landmark initiatives of the Central and State Governments, AMCO continued that the vital role being played by various NGOs, CSOs, agencies, Churches, villages chiefs, individuals, and other frontal organizations in this regard is appreciable.
AMCO went on to state that Churches under them have made a collective pledge based on Christian faith, Biblical ethics and other values to extend unstinted support toward eradicating drug menace and poppy cultivation.
Saying that the Churches, with all their resources and capabilities, will work persistently to prevent drug abuse and poppy cultivation in Manipur from the grassroots level, AMCO appealed to all individuals involved in drug trade and poppy cultivation to stop their business to save lives and the ecosystem.
AMCO also appealed to the Central and State Governments to formulate a comprehensive/concrete socio-economic policy (Agriculture, Environment, Forest, Livelihood) in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) based on rationality, sustainability, inclusiveness, and free from prejudice.
