Free rural surgery camp held

Association of Minimal Access Surgeons of India (AMASI ) in collaboration with Association Surgeons of India (ASI) Manipur Chapter and Comprehensive Health Services & Research Centre (CHSRC), Ukhrul on Saturday organised a 1-day Free Rural Surgery Camp at CHSRC, Hamleikhong, Ukhrul.
A medical team consisting of 12 doctors and 5 paramedics including lab technicians provided surgical services to the people of Ukhrul such as Laparoscopic/ keyhole, plastic surgery and general open surgery.
The team included Dr S Jugindro, chairman ASI Manipur Chapter; honorary secretary ASI & AMASI, Dr Ch Deepak; Dr Ibohal, Head of Department, Plastics Surgery RIMS; Dr Ramthai Kamei, Laparoscopic Surgeon and Dr Nelson, Director CHSRC.

Speaking to media persons, Dr Ch Deepak shared that a total of 14 surgeries were performed including 2 minor operations during the camp.
"It is a regular annual programme of the Association and our main objective is to provide surgical services at free of cost including medicine to the people living in remote areas who are without access to basic medical facilities", he added.
Pointing out that performing surgery in rural areas is a challenging task, he stated that in spite of all these difficulties, AMASI brought Laparoscopic machines and other medical equipment required in the operation theatre and conducted surgery to help the people of the area.
He also stressed on the need for development of adequate infrastructure and medical equipment to improve the health sector and ensure basic health care to all.
Appreciating CHSRC Ukhrul for screening the patients in advance, he mentioned that the hospital allowed them to utilize the medical equipment and all the logistical support provided to the visiting medical team enable them to make the surgery camp a success.
