Kakching, April 15 2023:
While opining that the "War on Drugs" campaign launched by the state government back in 2018 has not been reaping the fruit, MLA K Ranjit has stressed on the need for concerted and sincere efforts by all the 60 MLAs to finally make it successful.
MLA K Ranjit shared his opinion on the anti-drug campaign while speaking at a meeting held in connection with the war on drugs at Sugnu Awang Leikaida Ching Tam community hall organised by him along Anti-Drugs Committee, Sugnu where people not only from Sugnu but also from Chandel, Churachandpur and Bishnupur took part.
The MLA further said that the need for collaborative efforts from all the MLAs was highlighted many times in the state assembly and resolution adopted unanimously during the last assembly session.
If all the 60 MLAs work sincerely against drugs, the campaign can be concluded fruitfully within a month's time.
"Everybody knows that poppy plants are mostly cultivated in Chandel, Senapati, Kangpokpi and Churachandpur and the MLAs of these areas also know it clearly.
Therefore, it would be just a matter of one month to successfully wrap up the war on drugs campaign".
Maintaining that it is the responsibility of the government to provide 'weapons' if all the MLAs were to go for war on drugs, MLA Ranjit said that counselling, training and rehabilitation centres are the required 'weapons'.
The public meeting also resolved to form a committee named "Anti-Drugs Committee Sugnu AC and Adjoining Areas of Churachandpur, Bishnupur and Chandel District" to combat the drug menace in Sugnu and surrounding areas with MLA K Ranjit as the president.
It also further resolved to form sub-committees at the village level.
The meeting was followed by a mass rally in Sugnu late in the afternoon.
