Indian flag hoisting day commemorated

Commemorating the day when the Indian national flag was first hoisted at Moirang Kangla, the 79th Indian flag hoisting day was observed at INA Martyrs Memorial Hall, Moirang on Saturday.
The commemorative event jointly organised by Department of Art and Culture, INA Advisory Committee and Assam Rifles was marked by offering of floral tributes to the statue of Netaji Subash Chandra Bose.
Artistes of Bir Tikendraji University, Imphal performed Maibi Jagoi apart from presentation of "Panthoibu Sayol" by Moirang Artistes Association.
Moirang MLA Th Shanti Singh and Art and Culture director L Kishorjit Singh attended the event as chief guest and president respectively while, major general Rajiv Kumar Gupta and retired lieutenant general L Nishikanta Singh were present as guest of honour and special guest respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Shanti recounted that the tri colour was first hoisted at Moirang in 1944.Hac the flag not been hoisted at Moirang, the struggle and outcome of Indian independence would have beer a totally different story and the Indian independence could have been delayed, he opined, and stressed the need to include Moirang while discussing the history of India.
