Imphal, April 15 2023:
Manipur State Council (MSC), Communist Party of India (CPI) state secretary L Thoiren has called for saving the country from the BJP government which he alleged is desecrating the Constitution and Republic of India.
Speaking at the protest meeting launched as part of the nationwide political campaign of MSC-CPI, at Irawat Bhawan, here, on Saturday, Thoiren pointed out that the month-long nationwide political campaign is being carried out in protest against the RSS/BJP-combine government's acts of desecrating the Constitution and Republic of India and privatisation of public wealth, which is being sold off to private bodies.
Alleging that the government has been silencing dissenters and committing blatant violations of freedom of speech of the people, Ihoiren remarked that many academicians and political thinkers, including those voicing for protecting the territorial integrity, have been buried or muted.
No action has been taken up to prevent the increasing influx of illegal migrants either, he said.
Furthermore, the implementation of 'One Country, One Nation, One Language' has rendered democracy meaningless.
As such, the nationwide campaign was launched with the association of other secular parties and like-minded democratic parties under the motto of 'Defeat BJP, Save Nation', to defeat the RSS-supported BJP government, from April 14 to May 15 .
In support of this campaign, MSC-CPI will be organising meetings in various districts to make the people aware of the government's wrongdoings, Thoiren conveyed.
Later, as part of launching the campaign, the gathering shouted nine slogans such as "End BJP government, Save the people", "Set up Joint Parliamentary Committee to investigate Adani Group", "End Corruption, Stop Privatisation", "No cancellation of MGNREGS fund", "Protect Manipur's territorial integrity, implement NRC in Manipur at the earliest", "Include local bodies in curbing drug menace from state", "Save agricultural land, Save the farmers", "Enforce minimum support price as per the law", and "Provide key agricultural materials at affordable rates" .
The meeting was attended by MSC-CPI ex-secretary L Sotinkumar, Political Affairs Committee convenor N Shinghajit, assistant secretary M Joykumar and ex-secretary member S Sorojini as presidium members.
