Imphal, October 31 2022:
BJP Manipur Pradesh president A Sharda has called for upholding the tradition and culture bestowed by our forefathers.
Speaking at the 3rd edition of Ningol Chakkouba programme organised for elderly women staying in homes by Kindness Manipur at Langjing Achouba Old Age Home, Imphal on Monday, Sharda reminded that Ningol Chakkouba is an important festival of Manipur and it helps in strengthening the relationship between married women and their maternal homes.
While expressing gratitude for inviting her for the event, and commending the organiser and functionaries of the home for their selfless service, Sharda also assured of extending all possible help from her side towards the Home.
She then called upon the younger generations to uphold the traditions and culture preserved and gifted by their forefathers.
Advisor of the old age home, Sumati Sougrakpam, in her presidential speech, said that the way the Ningol Chakkouba festival is celebrated has undergone several changes.
From its original values of a grand family reunion and honouring the relationship with simple gifts, the festival has become a competition for gifts and it needs to be changed, she said, while calling up upholding the true essence of the festival.
Eramdam Infra and Manipur Fitness Club proprietor Suraj Adhikari, filmmaker Rakesh Naorem and Poujai Gangmei also attended the event.
