Imphal, September 11 2022:
Stating out that the state is facing a drought situation but not as severe as a similar condition faced in 2019, Irabot Foundation Manipur (IFM) has urged the government to conduct a survey and declare drought in the state at the earliest.
Speaking to newspersons at Manipur Press Club here on Sunday, IFM president Kh Gopen Luwang informed that the foundation surveyed around 10,000 'paris' of agricultural land in Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal, Kakching and Bishnupur districts from September 5 and found many farm lands which could not harvest the crops.
The farmers are facing several problems due to imminent crop failure, he said, while urging authorities concerned to survey the agricultural lands.
It is unfortunate that the farmers have not availed the compensation for drought in 2019 till now despite release of relief funds by the centre, Gopen lamented, while appealing to release the compensation for the affected farmers at the earliest.
He further exhorted to form an enquiry committee and investigate about irrigation facilities.
