SUK launches tree plantation drive

As part of its 11th foundation day, which falls on September 18, Students' Union of Kangleipak (SUK) launched a weeklong tree plantation programme under the theme 'Sanghallasi Kangleipak on Sunday.
Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur chairman Sarat, who participated the launch programme, said that the plantation drive is a commendable activity of SUK and it will help in addressing the issue of climate change to some extent.
He also called upon different organisations in the state to organise such activities for a better future.
SUK president Dhanakumar thanked COHSEM for its contribution in organising the weeklong programme.
The initiative was taken up with the objective to contribute in the fight against climate change.
During the programme, SUK members will plant trees at different educational institutes affiliated under COHSEM, he said.
He also urged the people in the hill areas to stop clearing forest cover for illegal poppy plantation but to explore alternative means of livelihood while conserving the forest cover.
On the first day of the programme, SUK members planted tree saplings at the campuses of TG Higher Secondary School, Pravabati College, Wangoi Higher Secondary School, N Tomchou Higher Secondary School, KP College, Kings Academy of Science, Prinston International School, Nambol Leiren High School, UNACCO School Utlou Chanura and Special Regular English School.
Tree saplings were also distributed to the public.
