AMSU 'advisor', Mandal arrested

Imphal, September 11 2022:
The convenor of the Advisory Committee of AMSU Headquarters and advisor of All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) who is also said to be an active member of a proscribed militant outfit was arrested yesterday.
ADGP (Law and order) Clay Khongsai informed this to the media during a press conference held at the conference hall of the Imphal West SP this afternoon.
He also informed that Lilong police has arrested a Mandal (Revenue Department staff), namely Md Nasimuddin (54) s/o (L) Md Tolangou of Kyamgei Muslim Awang Leikai yesterday in connection with issuance of fabricated/fake pattas to private individuals.
Clay Khongsai conveyed that the arrested person has been identified as one Thokchom Suresh alias Tombi alias Parihanba (39) s/o (L) Thokchom Kumar of Khurai Kongpal Sajor Leikai.
He said that Suresh was arrested by a team of Imphal West commandos during an operation conducted at Khurai Kongpal area yesterday at around 4.50 am.
Clay Khongsai claimed that a .38 pistol along with one magazine, a laptop, two mobile handsets, an Aadhaar Card and a voter ID card were seized from his possession.
The ADGP added that the seized pistol and the laptop were respectively handed over to Suresh by his commander through unknown persons at DM College campus near JN Dance Academy in November 2021 and at Moreh on August 28, 2022 at Eastern Shine School, Moreh respectively.
Saying that the said operation was carried based on an information about the presence of some active cadres of a militant group at Khurai Kongpal area, the ADGP went on to inform that the arrested person disclosed that he joined a particular militant group in the year 1997 and got his basic military training in Eastern Nagaland and was allotted army number 607 of 13th Batch.
Suresh further disclosed that he is presently working under the command of one self styled Major Umakanta of the particular militant group from Singjamei who is currently in Myanmar since 2021 .
While asserting that Suresh is also presently working as an advisor of AMSU and convenor of the Advisory Committee of AMSU Headquarters, the ADGP asked all student organizations not to maintain any connection with unlawful organizations or anti-social elements.
He also asked all those who are not students to stay away from joining student organizations.
Conveying that further investigation is on into the case, Clay Khongsai said that the same case will be handed over to a Central investigating agency, if required.
Speaking about the arrest of Nasimuddin, Clay Khongsai said that the Mandal (Nasimuddin) had fraudulently prepared fake pattas while he was working as SK in-charge of Irong Chesaba in the year 2020 .
He continued that Nasimuddin has been evading police arrest since the past many months after his alleged involvement in manipulation of Government land records and issuance of fabricated pattas to private individuals that resulted in the loss of around 19 acres of forest or State land at Chaobok.
Claiming that Nasimuddin is now posted at SDC, Chandel as a Mandal, the ADGP added that three other accused persons, namely Md Allauddin (55) s/o (L) Md Ajid Ali of Lilong Turel Ahanbi Kaleikhong Makha, Md Daud Khan (50) s/o (L) Md Inder Rahaman of Lilong Bazar near Oil Pump and Thiyam Nipamacha Singh (65) s/o (L) Th Thambalngou Singh of Thiyam Konjil Maning Leikai had already been arrested in connection with the same case.
