SARGAM observes 30th foundation day; 'Loubuk Maikei Paanglasi' released

The 30th foundation day of SARGAM (performing band cum musical institute) was observed today at the residence of B Netachandra Sharma, former president of SARGAM at Brahmapur Nahabam.
As a part of the function, floral tributes were offered to the deceased members of SARGAM.
The event was attended by W Ibohal Singh, Director of Tourism, Govt of Manipur; B Netachandra Sharma, former president, SARGAM; S Tijendra, former president, SARGAM; GA Sanatomba sharma, Associate Vice-President, Manipur Olympic Association; Khoirom Loyalakpa, editor, Naharolgi Thoudang and M Dhananjoy Singh, president, SARGAM as the chief guest, guest of honour and functional president.
Speaking on the occasion, M Dhananjoy shared that the day marks 30 years since SARGAM has been performing together as a music band.

He stated that SARGAM is more than a music group but is also an institute and has produced many noted and talented students.
He also expressed hope that the group will be able to provide their musical services to the public for a long time to come.
Noted singer S Tijendra also addressed the gathering and asserted that the current direction of modern music in Manipur cannot be seen as making progress in the field of music.
He explained the reason for this is because modern music seems to borrow the musical style of others, import them here into the music scene and produce them as one's own music, he said.
He rued the lack of representation of "He added that the tune, vocal, melody etc of modern music seem quite different from stereotypical Manipuri songs.
The renowned singer maintained that only when musicians make their mark with a musical style and composition unique to the State can it be said that progress in the music field has been made.
In this aspect, he lauded singer Mangka for her unique style that immediately sets her and the State apart.
Separately, the release of SARGAM's 'Loubuk Maikei Paanglasi' audio cassette was also held at the same venue today.
It may be noted that 'Loubuk Maikei Paanglasi' was produced under CMAT (Chief Minister Gi Artist Singgi Tengbang) Department of Art and Culture, Govt of Manipur as a part of India's 75 years of independence celebration.
Notably, Sagolsem Tijendra and M Dhananjoy are the music director and lyricist of 'Loubuk Maikei Paanglasi' .
Speaking on the occasion, Thangjam Arunkumar, MLA, Wangkhei AC said that music has the capacity to sort out differences between different communities.
Stating that 'Loubuk Maikei Paanglasi' is a meaningful song, he shared that an emphasis on work culture, self-reliance, living in harmony are the important messages in the song.
He also lauded the artists of the State, adding that art and culture represent Manipur on the global stage.
The function was also attended by M Joy, Commissioner, Art and Culture; L Kishworjit, Director, Art and Culture and B Netachandra Sharma, former president, SARGAM among others.
