State shuttiers dazzle in NE meet, claim 8 gold medals

Imphal, September 11 2022:
Manipur scooped eight of the 12 gold medals on offer in the NE State Zonal Badminton Championship 2022 which wrapped up on Sunday.
The state shuttlers won the boys' singles, girls' doubles, boys' doubles, mixed doubles, women's doubles and junior mixed doubles events, in addition to two gold medals in the mixed team championship at the Agartala meet.
H Malemnganba Singh claimed the boys' singles gold medal after beating Arunachal Pradesh's Nikhil Chetry 21-16, 23-21 in their summit clash.
In the women's doubles final, the state pair of Angita Naorem and K Priya Devi pulled off a 22-20, 21-17 win over Arunachal's Pinky Karki and Taring Yania.
On the other hand, K Dingku Singh and K Priya Devi partnered to defeat Assam's Suraj Goala and Manali Bora 20-22, 24-22, 21-14 in the mixed doubles final, while Sirzeet Moirangthem and H Vilinda Devi secured the junior mixed doubles gold medal after beating Assam's Rohit Gogoi and Shantipriya Hazarika 21-12, 21-8.Also, H Rohenkumar Singh and Rk Alen took gold medal for Manipur in the boys' doubles event.
The state pair got the better of Assam's Ayad Rashid and Tanmoy Bikash Boruah 21-14, 17-21, 21-14 in the final, while H Vilinda Devi and L Daina Devi shone in the girls' doubles final with a 21-13, 23-21 win against Assam's Antika Gogoi and Mayuri Barman.
The last day also saw Manipur make a clean sweep of the mixed team championship after the state senior team outperformed Assam 3-1 in the final courtesy of performances by M Meiraba Luwang (men's singles), K Dingku Singh and Kh Manjit Singh (men's doubles) and K Priya Devi and Ksh Maheshwori Devi (women's doubles).
Meiraba bested his Assamese opponent Orijit Chaliha 13-21, 21-15, 21-12 in the men's singles contest as Dingku Singh and Manjit beat Sangram Chuitia and Sir-aj Goala 16-21, 21-14, 21-18 in the men's doubles event, and Priya and Masheshwori outdid Isharani Baruah and Manali Bora 21-17, 22-20 in the women's doubles event to help Manipur prevail by a 3-1 margin for their mixed team gold medal.
Earlier on the penultimate day of the championship, the junior team beat Assam 3-2 to capture the junior mixed team title.
