Imphal, September 11 2022:
The way some people who are no longer members of AMSU 'stormed' the student body's office located at DMU campus yesterday after misleading some gullible students was highly condemnable, said AMSU president Haobijam Chalamba.
Speaking to media persons at THAU complex, Thangmeiband this afternoon, Chalamba said that those individuals were deliberately trying to malign the image of AMSU by storming its office.
Chalamba also rejected the statements and claims made by one Laishram Robindro before media yesterday as lies and unfounded.
All members should be given notice one month in advance if there should be any general body meeting or general assembly of AMSU and the president should preside the meeting, Chalamba said.
The claim of those handful of men that an adhoc committee has been formed and the existing executive committee had been abolished after holding a general body meeting yesterday itself sounds rather comical, he remarked.
A notification was issued on August 14 to hold a general body meeting of AMSU on September 15 but the same meeting has been postponed indefinitely on account of the activities of those handful of men, Chalamba said.
Those handful of men who stormed AMSU office yesterday had been either expelled or had left the student body on their own accord.
As such, they have no connection with the student body, Chalamba said.
He said that they have filed a complaint to police to investigate yesterday's incident and take up befitting action.
Reacting to the allegation that he is a Government employee, Chalamba clarified that he sometimes teach students at NB College as a research scholar but he is neither given salary nor recognised by the Government.
He added that he has no interest to engage in arguments and counter-arguments regarding yesterday's incident.
