Imphal, May 19 2023:
Expressing grief and sorrow over the sudden spate of ethnic violence between two communities, Information Centre for Hill Areas Manipur (ICHAM) has urged the parties in conflict to shed all differences and work to restore peace and harmony in the state.
Addressing media persons at Manipur Press Club on Thursday, ICHAM president Yuimi Horam said it has been trying to create an environment of peace and harmony among the various communities settling in the state for the last many years.
On sensing trust deficit among the two communities, ICHAM had convened meetings and discussed over the issue along with its advisors.
However, all of a sudden, the unwanted incident of ethnic violence erupted in Churachandpur and spread across the state.
He further informed that as human beings it is natu-ral for different communi-ties to vary in thoughts and perceptions.
However, it would not be the right ap-proach to resort to violence, Yuimi Horam said while ap-pealing to all to ensure that no such incidents recur and peace and harmony prevails in the state.
He also urged the state government to take up measures to bring peace and also to compensate for the losses.
ICHAM advisor Nongthombam Rajen-dro also said that ICHAM which was established in 2001/2002 has been striving to bring peace and unity among the different communities settling in the state and it is very unfor-tunate that the communal violence broke out in the state at a time when sense of peace and unity was developing among the com-munities.
