Imphal, May 19 2023:
Apart from ques-tioning the silence of an-tral government leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi when Ma-nipur is burning, Congress leader Mukul Wasnik assured that the party will extend all possible help for return of peace and normalcy in the state.
Mukul Wasnik is leading a three-member fact finding team of the Congress party constituted by AICC presi-dent Mallikarjun Kharge to investigate into the com-munal violence in Manipur.
The team that arrived here on Thursday also comprises former Jharkhand MP Ajay Kumar and Tripura MLA Sudeep Roy Barman.
After meeting Governor Anusuiya Uikey on Friday, Mukul Wasnik told media persons at Congress Bhawan that Central leaders includ-ing Prime Minister Narendra Modi have not uttered a sin-gle word even as people of Manipur are suffering due to ethnic clash though Central leaders used to visit the state even for a petty matter in the past.
Since outbreak of the violence on May 3, none of the Central leaders visit-ed Manipur and this indeed testifies indifferent attitude of the Centre, he added.
According to Mukul Was-nik, series of violence since May 3 took lives of several people and damaged prop-erties but none of the Cen-tral leaders seem concerned with the situation in Manipur.
However, Congress party will extend all possible help to bring back peace and normal-cy in the state, he affirmed.
While condemning the state government's inabil-ity to take stern action to bring an end to the ongo-ing conflict between two communities, the Congress leader said state government is yet to provide even a ru-pee to the affected people though assured to provide compensation.
Mukul Wasnik asked the Central and state govern-ments to adopt special mea-sures to restore peace and normalcy while affirming that Congress party will ex-tend fullest support to such measures.
He also asserted that Congress party does not want to politicise the present situation and party's district and block levels have been instructed to extend help to affected people.
The fact finding team will interact with some other people when they reach New Delhi on Saturday and present its report to AICC president within two days.
The press conference was also attended by MPCC pres-ident K Meghachandra, CLP leader 0 Ibobi Singh, AICC in-charge Manipur Bhakta Charan Das and formed MP Dr T Meinya among others.
