A team of Transporters and Drivers' Council (TDC) led by its president H Ranjit Singh met chief minister N Biren Singh on Friday and put forward var-ious security concerns with re-gard to movement of vehicles/ trucks along the national high-ways in view of the prevailing restive situation in the state.
In response, CM Biren assured to station permanent force in incident-prone locations along NH-37.Speaking to newspersons after meeting the CM, TDC president H Ranjit informed that since the communal clashes broke out on May 3, trucks carrying essential items from other states are stranded on the highways.
The plight of the drivers and transporters was conveyed to the chief minister, along with an appeal to take up security measures for the protection of the drivers.
To this, the CM gave assur-ances to take up the requisite steps to restore the movement of vehicles along NH-37.He (CM) further assured TDC after con-sulting with the state security advisor and top police officials, to deploy permanent security in risky areas along NH-37, for which instructions have been given to security forces.
Ranjit then urged drivers not to stop commuting on NH-37 (Imphal-Jiribam), adding that the government plans to deploy the permanent security forces from Keithelmanbi to Seijang (before Tupul).
In addition, concerns were raised to the government for deployment of adequate security at risky ar-eas such as Noney, Awangkhul, Irang, Khongshang and Kaimai areas.
Thus, drivers should con-tinue commuting and ensure regular supply of essential items to the people of Manipur.
Further appealing to the driv-ers and transporters of Manipur, the TDC president urged for con-tacting the secretary of Drivers' Union to check availability of escort and possible issues.
If any issue arises, the Union should be immediately contacted so that it can inform the government and request for help.
He also appealed to the drivers to per-form their duties carefully and without fear.
