Imphal, May 19 2023:
While maintaining that the first priority for the government is to get everyone to safety and save as many lives as possible and to restore peace and normalcy, Sagolband MLA RK Imo has called for peace and also raised some questions, which he stated as "need to be answered and addressed".
In a press statement, the MLA said that with most of the stranded people brought to safety for the time being, the focus is now shifted to restoring peace and normalcy in the state.
However, there are some questions which need to be answered and ad-dressed, he said.
"As there is a lot of mistrust amongst everyone right now, I would like to urge the govern-ment to conduct an independent inquiry leading to the big inci-dent on May 3," the MLA said and added that every person or organisation involved should be punished severely for the insti-gation, leading to the loss of lives and properties across the state.
Delving into the separate ad-ministration demand raised by 10 MLAs, RK Imo raised four questions - (i) Did they force these incidents to happen in order to seek this new demand?, (ii) Is this their actual and real demand, and did they let the incidents happen on May 3 under the pretext of the earlier one to ask for this new demand?, (iii) Are all of the signatories doing it willingly or being forced to do by their pressure groups?, and (iv) Who is responsible for the loss of so many lives in the state? Were all these pre-planned to show it as a sacrifice to seek this new demand? With the union home min-ister also assuring the state government to tackle the is-sue surrounding Suspension of Operation (So0) agreement following the representation of maximum of the state leg-islators submitted through the CM, the first few steps to bring peace and normalcy in the state should be to withdraw So0 with the insurgent groups as they have violated the ground rules by openly flaunting and using their firearms on the public and security forces.
Mentioning about the reports that many of the So0 cadres were not found in their desig-nated camps, the MLA urged the central government to bring all the cadres back to their desig-nated camps immediately and have their firearms seized.
He also urged the Central govern-ment to oversee the illegal armed foreign groups crossing the In-dian border into Manipur im-mediately as it is a threat to the nation's internal security stating that these illegal armed groups from across the border are col-laborating and fighting against the nation's security forces.
He also underscored the need for deploying more security forces in the foothills to ensure peace in the areas such as Churachand-pur, Tengnoupal and Kangpokpi districts to ensure proper and safe rehabilitation and reset-tlement of the displaced people.
Similarly, those displaced people from the valley area should be provided assistance for peaceful resettlement and rehabilitation.
Maintaining that Manipur has a written history of more than 2000 years with its own unique cultural identity, where vari-ous communities live together peacefully, he said that any de-mand or attempt to disintegrate the state will not be accepted and tolerated.
Every indigenous people of the state are welcomed to live in the state peacefully, he added.
The MLA again urged the in-digenous and people of all com-munities of the state to come back and live at their respective places and help bridge the divide caused by the recent incidents.
"Let the people from the both the hills and valley resettle peacefully in their respective places, where they have been residing as families and friends.
Let us give peace a chance and not get pressured from outside forces and insurgent groups," he added.
