Imphal, May 19 2023:
Kanglamei president Leirik Leima has urged the Central Government leaders to visit Manipur and conduct an enquiry in order to get an idea about the ground reality instead of relying on "spurious information" presented by the ten Chin-Kuki MLAs.
The statement was made during a sit-in protest held at Konthoujam Leikai organised by the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI), Council for Youth Welfare and meira paibis of the area.
The protest was taken out under the banner of "No separate administration in Manipur" and "No one can hurt the integrity of Manipur" .
The protestors held many placards with messages such as "Government must not surrender to terrorists", "Go back foreigners" and "Withdraw SoO pact immediately" among others.
Leirik Leima, who partook in the protest as a representative of COCOMI, alleged that the ethnic clash erupted as a result of the Manipur Government's strong step against deforestation, poppy cultivation and infiltration of foreigners from Myanmar and settling in forest areas.
She further accused SoO militants and other groups with an agenda to harm the unified structure of Manipur of joining the civil unrest to wreak havoc and cause harm to people and their properties thereby pouring fuel to an already volatile situation.
While dubbing the demand for a separate administration made by the ten MLAs, including two Ministers from the BJP, as "completely wrong", she added that legal action must be taken up against the ten MLAs.
Strongly condemning the MLAs and others with hidden agendas of publicizing "fake narratives" regarding the civil unrest to the rest of India, the Kanglamei president called upon the Home Minister and other Central Government leaders to come to Manipur and see the reality of the situation for themselves.
