Bishnupur, May 19 2023:
Protest demonstrations continue under the aegis of Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) against the demand for a 'separate administration' thereby threatening the unity and integrity of the State.
A sit-in protest was staged yesterday at the relief camp opened at Ithai Khunou Government High School in Kumbi Assembly Constituency joining in the call for protection of State's integrity.
Speaking in connection with the protest, former coordinator COCOMI, Karam Sunil said 'The ethnic clash which erupted on May 3 was a result of planned atrocities of well-armed SoO militants upon innocent civilians and not between indigenous Kukis and Meiteis as wrongly portrayed' .
The events took an ugly turn with unabated communal violence rendering thousands homeless leaving them in a vulnerable state, he said.
He further alleged 'The SoO militants are still continuing their heinous act of attacking innocent civilians and security Forces by resorting to acts of burning of houses of civilians, firing on civilians, security forces etc though the acts of communal violence have subsided.
Expressing concern that no stringent measures have been taken up till date against the ground rule violators of SoO pact, he maintained that peace and normalcy can be brought when they are confined to their respective camps putting an end to their atrocities.
He also raised questions on why the Government is unable to take up strict actions against those who are imposing blockade in Kangpokpi disrupting flow of essential items to valley regions.
In view of the above, he urged the Government to take up adequate measures at the earliest to reinstate peace and sanity in Manipur.
