Imphal, May 19 2023:
At least two houses belonging to Meitei families have been burnt down by suspected cadres of a Kuki militant group at Dolaithabi in Imphal East today.
According to a report culled from the spot, some locals of Dolaithabi who have been taking shelter elsewhere went to take their belongings from their respective houses along with Assam Rifles personnel today.
Reportedly, the locals were given 10 minutes to grab their belongings by the Assam Rifles and they left the place hastily.
Soon after the Assam Rifles and the locals left the place, some suspected cadres of a Kuki militant group came down from the hills and burnt the two houses located some 150 meters away from Dolaithabi barrage.
On learning about the torching, locals of Dolaithabi and Pukhao in large numbers tried to move toward the site but their attempt was foiled by Assam Rifles for security reasons.
It is said that a team of State police had also rushed to Dolaithabi to take stock of the situation.
Speaking to media persons, some locals said that armed Kuki militants had also reduced 30 houses at Dolaithabi to ashes earlier.
A large number of State police and 18 Assam Rifles have been deployed at Dolaithabi Bridge.
