Van Mahotsav: Tree plantation drive continues across State

In line with the observance of 'Van Mahotsav', Noney Forest Division along with Longmai Nature Club organised a short ceremonial plantation event at Longmai 2, Noney district today.
The event marks the beginning of a series of weeklong plantation drives that would follow, across strategic areas in the district.
It was participated by Robert Singh Kshetrimayum, IAS, DC Noney; Ningshem Vashum, IPS, SP Noney and Napolean Rongmei, MFS, DFO Noney and other prominent leaders.
The Longmai Nature Club will reportedly plant over 2000 saplings mostly Camphor and Gulmahor across the 70 Km stretch between Tupul and Joajengtek.
SENAPATI
Similarly, a tree plantation drive was carried out by the Department of Chemistry of DBCM at Kabinam village under the leadership of Sr (Dr) Bindu Thomas the Head of the Department.
Earlier, a cleanliness drive was also carried out in the entire village in preparation of the tree-plantation drive.
Sr Bindu, while planting saplings in the village premises urged the people to make plantation a part of life.
At the end of the plantation drive, the village secretary proposed a vote of thanks and assured that the villagers would protect the trees.
The Naga People's Front, Manipur State Unit (NPF-MSU) today organised a mass tree plantation drive along NH-2 in collaboration with the State Forest Department.
It was carried out from Taphou Liangmei to Senapati Bazaar in association with ADC members, DFO, ROs and party workers of the NPF in the presence of Awangbow Newmai, Minister, Forest, Environment and Climate Change, Manipur, who is also the President of NPF-MSU.
Speaking on the occasion, Awangbow Newmai highlighted the importance of trees to the environment and mentioned that climate change has been felt all over the country.
The Forest Minister asserted that planting trees and preserving the forest is preserving survival.
He also expressed his concern over the increasing trend of Covid infection in the State while adding that vaccination is the one way to defeat the pandemic.
D John Sha, MFS, DFO, Senapati Forest Division stated that 'Van Mahotsav' is observed all over the country to encourage the people to plant trees.
He also encouraged the people to take a pledge to plant at least one seedling this season.
The DFO further appealed to the public to come and get seedlings while adding that the department is ready to assist and provide technical support.
About 700 saplings were planted on the day including Gulmohar, cherry and garcinia.
TAMENGLONG
Tamenglong Forest Division and Rainforest Club Tamenglong jointly observed 'Van Mahotsav' carrying out mass tree plantation at the Mini Secretariat Complex, Tamenglong today.
The programme was attended by Armstrong Pame, IAS, DC Tamenglong; Sandip Gopaldas Mohurle, IPS, SP Tamenglong; Nehemiah Panmei Hony Wildlife Warden; Joseph Riamei, PRO to Minister Forest Environment and Climate Change; and Kh Hitler Singh, MFS, DFO Tamenglong as presidium members.
Office bearers and members of Rainforest Club Tamenglong, staff of Tamenglong Forest Division along with local volunteers also participated in the programme.
Awareness regarding the importance of Forest and Wildlife were given to the participants.
