Paddy fields in Lamlai AC remain dry: A Deben

Despite arrival of monsoon season, majority of paddy fields in Lamlai assembly constituency remain dry due to scanty rainfall and farmers of the constituency are still unable to sow paddy seeds and are fearful of facing drought, stated Lamlai Block Congress Committee Co-opted member Achoibam Deben, while drawing attention of chief minister and authority concerned to take necessary action so that farmers could start their seasonal cultivation activities.
In a video recording made available to media houses on Monday, Deben said that paddy fields in Lamlai assembly constituency lack irrigation system and there is no source of water for pumping water to these paddy fields.
Time for sowing paddy seeds is almost over now but paddy fields in Lamlai remain dry due to lack of rainfall and hence farmers are unable to start cultivation activities properly, Deben said, adding that repeated reminders to the government and authority concerned to develop irrigation system in Lamlai AC remains unattended and hence farmers of the AC are facing problems in farming activities.
Around 70 percent of population of Lamlai AC are involved in agriculture and allied activities but always depended on seasonal rain (monsoon).
With drought looming large this sowing season, farmers of the constituency are fearful of not having food next year and they are also hit hard by COVID-19 pandemic, Deben said, adding that Lamlai Block Congress Committee has been taking up necessary steps to overcome COVID-19 pandemic.
He also appealed to people of the constituency to get COVID-19 vaccine to prevent spread of the virus and make Lamlai free from the contagion.
