Parched fields leave Lamlai farmers in distress

Lamlai Block Congress Committee has appealed to the State Government to take up necessary steps as drought-like situations have hit major parts of the State suitable for paddy cultivation.
With sparse rainfall till date, the paddy fields at Lamlai Assembly Constituency remain dry hampering the commencement of paddy cultivation, said Achoibam Deben, a co-opted member of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee in a video release and sought intervention of the State Government to mitigate the deficiency of water for agricultural purposes.
In the video release circulated by Lamlai Block Congress Committee, A Deben said that farmers of Lamlai Assembly segment are extremely worried as the area lacks proper irrigational facilities and at the same time rainfall has not been adequate this time round.
Deben, who is intending to contest the election from Lamlai AC further stated there has been repeated approaches to the department concerned to facilitate proper irrigational plan but there has been no substantial response to the call.
70 percent of the population of Lamlai AC are paddy farmers, but these farmers whose resources are already depleted due to Covid pandemic are facing an additional crisis due to inadequate rainfall, he said and requested the State Government to take up necessary steps to ensure the distressed farmers some facilities through which paddy cultivation can be carried out.
Deben further highlighted that the Lamlai Block Congress Committee has been rendering all possible assistance and service to help people of Lamlai during the Covid pandemic.
He also maintained that the vaccination programme in the AC is also going on smoothly and called upon all in the AC to get their Covid vaccine shots and play their part in overcoming the pandemic.
