Assam Rifles aims at planting 21,000 saplings for Van Mahotsay

Imphal, July 05 2021:
44 Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ 22 Sect AR/ IGAR(E) started a seven day long Van Mahotsav in Tamenglong and Kangpokpi district.
The week-long event started at Tamenglong town where it's young Van Mitras planted local plant saplings.
Similar plantation drives were carried out in various other parts of the district.
The unit aims at planting 21000 saplings in various parts of the district during the ongoing Van Mahotsav Abhiyan.
It shall also aim at revisiting last year's planted saplings to ascertain their growth.
The event witnessed young Van Mitra and jawans of the unit planting fresh 5500 saplings on the first day of the Abhiyan.
One of the objectives of this drive was to spread awareness among locals and troops about the importance of trees and also of the secondary advantages acquired by plantation like prevention of soil erosion and landslides.
The seven days long Van Mahotsav shall take the plantation initiative to different parts of both Tamenglong and Kangpokpi districts.
Various means of propagation, seed dispersal and germination methods are being employed to achieve the target.
This year till now the unit Van Mitra has planted 16000 saplings and contributed their bit along with other like minded locals from the area.
Last year these GREEN WARRIORS had planted one lakhr saplings in various parts of the Tamenglong district.
The unit has created various self help plant nurseries to support its initiative.
These nurseries are catering for most of the local variety of the plants and are revamped after every plantation drive to be ready for the next.
