Noney, July 05 2021:
Functionaries of the Rongmei Naga Students' Organisation Manipur (RNSOM) on Monday carried out inspection of road condition along the Imphal-Jiribam section of the NH-37 .
The inspection was conducted ahead of the official inauguration of the bridge by Union minister Nitin Gadkari and chief minister N Biren Singh, which is scheduled on July 8 .
While appreciating the work agency for completing the long awaited Makru Bridge, the inspection team led by RNSOM president Daichui, said they are also satisfied with the work progress of construction of the Irang and Barak bridges.
They, however, noted that 70 per cent of the NH-37 is in good shape but the remaining stretch needs special attention of the authorities concerned as the project should not be entirely entrusted upon the sub-contractors.
The RNSOM appealed to the NHIDCL to closely monitor the work considering the topography of the areas and stressed the need for proper maintenance of the slope gradient.
"The root cause for frequent deterioration of condition of the NH-37 is due to the work agencies ignoring the need to construct the road in such a way that the rain or mountain spring water directly fall into drain," said Daichui, adding that inauguration of the Makru bridge will be fulfilment of cherished dream of the people.
