Foundation stone laid for temple

Imphal, April 06 2022:
Foundation stone has been laid for a new temple to be constructed under the aegis of Aamtala Historical Preservation Committee at Aamtala, a village settled by Manipuris in Assam's Hojai district.
Committee president Nongthombam Indrakumar, secretary Taorem Shyamkishwar, land donor Kshetrimayum Leirik, committee members Haorambam Digambar, Laiphrakpam Gaya, Kshetrimayum Rajbabu, Nongthombam Rameshwar, Nongthombam Kamal, Nongthombam Maipaksana, Sapam Babupishak, Khwairakpam Joymuhon, Wangkheimayum Chandrakirti, Kshetrimayum Manglemba and their families attended the foundation stone laying ceremony.
Committee president Indrakumar and his wife Nenabi are donating the temple in the memory of their parents Tuland and Rajani.
Aamtala is an old village where Meeteis began their settlement in the 1930s.The village is named after an old mango tree, which was growing there when the Meeteis began their settlement.
The Mango tree was uprooted on April 15, 1952 in a strong thunderstorm and a new Mango plant grew up at the same location.
The new temple is being constructed near the Mango tree to keep alive the belief of the villagers, who worship the Mango tree as their guardian.
