Moreh, April 05 2022:
The economy of Moreh has been hugely affected due to sealing of the Indo-Myanmar border for more than two years now because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Indo-Myanmar border has remained shut since March 2020 which has resulted in Namphalong Bazar in Myanmar rendered useless.
The affected people in the border town are waiting eagerly for reopening of the border.
Speaking to this daily, one of the Moreh traders highlighted that the people of border town especially those involved in the trade of household items have suffered greatly due to ceasing of trading activities for two years now.
Due to sealing of border in Manipur, business has shifted to neighbouring Mizoram with Mizoram government encouraging continuation of such activities.
If the trend continues, it will highly impact the economy of the state, the trader cautioned.
The trader further conveyed that if the prevailing scenario continues then the condition of Moreh as employment generator and trading hub can change forever.
Thus, the state government should consider reopening of Indo-Myanmar border as the Covid-19 situation has also improved.
