Imphal, July 01 2021:
Communist Party of India-Manipur State Council (CPI-MSC) on Thursday questioned the Chief Minister on when the special road protection forces will be deployed along the national highways, when the same has already been approved by the central government.
In a statement, CPI-MSC assistant secretary M Joykumar Luwang recounted the numerous instances of robberies, abductions and killings of drivers/handy-men and other crimes along the national highways, connecting the state to the outside world.
In this regard, several complaints have been lodged to the central government along with multiple requests for deployment of Highway (road) protection force.
Questioning the delay in fulfilling the people's demands, the assistant secretary further questioned why the government is refusing to take strict action against perpetrators of crimes being committed along the lifelines of the state, while demanding clarification on the same.
"Some time ago, FCI drivers and All Jiribam Transport Union staged protests against illegal taxation being carried out along Imphal -Jiri road in the name of 'Godown tax' .
There is no valid reason for collecting tax especially when the people are suffering due to the pandemic", Joykumar said and urged the central and state governments to deploy the highway protection force at the earliest to allow smooth movement of drivers/handymen along the national highways.
