Imphal, July 01 2021:
BJP Spokesperson, Wilubou Newmai has asserted that the Congress has no moral right to question the BJP Government at the Centre and in the State on fuel price hike.
A press release issued by Wilubou Newmai said that the Central Government has paid off the unpaid bills of UPA era oil bonds worth Rs 1.3 lakh crore with an interest of Rs 40,000 crore.
"We ( the BJP) know that the increase in fuel prices is hitting hard on the poor but Central and State Governments including Congress-ruled States need additional money from the taxes on petrol and diesel to meet the expenses of combating the pandemic and development work," he added.
Saying that over Rs 35,000 crore have been spent on procuring vaccines alone, he added that thousands of crores have been directly deposited in the bank accounts of our farmers under PM Kisan.
If Congress is concerned about the poor being hit by fuel prices, it must answer why fuel is expensive in Congress-ruled States like Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Punjab, he asked.
