Imphal, July 01 2021:
The alarming COVID-19 situation in the state with daily positive cases of 600-700 and fatality averaging 10 deaths is result of government's erroneous policy, alleged Sugnu MLA K Ranjit.
As part of mass vaccination programmes being taken up constituency-wise throughout the state to curb spread of COVID-19 spread, mass vaccination programme in respect of Sugnu assembly constituency got underway from Thursday under the initiative of K Ranjit.
On the first day, the mass vaccination programme was held at Chairel high school wherein he appealed the people to get inoculated to save oneself from the danger of the virus.
It is still unpredictable when COVID-19 pandemic and hardships being faced by people of Manipur will end and every one of us are in the middle of life and death, K Ranjit said after inspecting the vaccination drive.
He also stressed that it is not the time to hurl accusation but work together to defeat the virus.
When the first wave of COVID-19 pandemic struck Manipur all of sudden, both the government and people were in a dilemma.
However, large number of positive cases and daily fatalities of over 10 patients in the second wave is outcome of government's lack of preparation and precaution, Ranjit alleged and cited government's decision to allow home isolation of positive people without proper investigation as the root cause behind the rapid and alarming spread of the infectious disease.
Despite opening of Community Home Isolation Centre for Sugnu AC at JNV school, Umathel, government allowed positive people to stay at home without proper screening and this proved disastrous as more than 100 people tested positive for COVID-19 in Sugnu AC and four of them succumbed to the disease in the second wave, Ranjit said adding that the state is sure to encounter third wave of the pandemic as its onset is already being experienced in 9-10 states of the country.
While appealing to the government, particularly the chief minister who is in-charge of health portfolio, to take utmost precaution to prevent third wave, Ranjit warned that it would be disastrous if third wave hits the state.
He also strongly called for ending home isolation policy for COVID-19 patients.
