Thadou Inpi supports 24-hr total shutdown

Thadou Inpi, Sadar Hills has pledged its full support to the 24-hour total shutdown being called by Asian Highway Land Affected Villages Chairmen/Chiefs' Association.
The Association in collaboration with various student bodies and civil society organisations of Kangpokpi district had announced a 24-hour total shutdown with effect from 5 am of July 2 in connection with the highway expansion issue.
It stated that despite its maximum efforts to resolve the issue in an amicable way the state government and other authorities paid no attention to its peaceful approach, compelling the Association to resort to an extreme form of agitation.
It also said that objections had been submitted in time on several occasions when the department concerned invited objections on its notifications with respect to land acquisition move against the land affected victims' rights and sentiment but the objections had been not entertained by the authority concerned.
Thadou Inpi Sadar Hills general secretary Seijang expressed suspicion of a hidden agenda behind the lackadaisical attitude of the state government towards the highway expansion issue despite all possible peaceful efforts on the part of AHLAVCCA.
As such Thadou Inpi considers it necessary to endorse the movement of AHLAVCCA in order to bring justice to all the affected victims, he said adding that the Inpi has been examining and monitoring thoroughly the issue concerning the Asian highway expansion within Kangpokpi district.
While conveying its deep concern over the issue, Thadou Inpi said that it is ready to back AHLAVCCA in its movement for justice and render all available resources and cooperation during the total shutdown.
